When one looks at the face of a woman, the most important aspects are the lips and the eyes. As a matter of fact a significant amount of procedures we do are to enhance the eyes and the lips and make all the rest of the face disappear. Imagine the face being a canvas. Why do we do a facelift? Because the picture has slipped out of the frame.
Getting a Good Cosmetic Result in the Eye Area
Why do we do chemical peels and laser resurfacing? Because the canvas is dirty? We inject lines and wrinkles around the mouth and forehead with Botox and filling materials because they detract from the appearance of the eyes and the lips. Our attention should be pulled to look and see only the eyes and the lips, but especially the eyes.
Sometimes the laxity of the lids have gone so far that the only possible treatment is a blepharoplasty (eye job). But there are many ways to improve the appearance of the eyes before that point is reached. The primary complaints I have heard from my patients is dark circles under the eyes, a groove under the eyes and lines under the eyes and crow’s feet.
Dark circles are due to a number of different factors, but primarily thinning of the skin under the eye due to loss of tissue and gravity pulling the skin and thinning it out so that the muscle can be seen. Additionally, there is leakage from the small blood vessels under the eye releasing compounds that have a dark color.
How to treat dark circles under the eyes?
To treat dark circles the best product has been shown to be a combination of vitamin A and vitamin K such as is contained in the small capsules to apply from International Cosmeceuticals (available here). If there are only lines and depression under the eyes, then an antioxidant cream can be applied to smooth the skin—such as La Peau eye gel (also available here).
There are also minimally invasive procedures that can significantly improve the appearance of the eyes. Botulinum toxin injections can smooth out crow’s feet and in experienced hands can be used under the eyes to improve the skin under the eye. The groove under the eyes can be injected with filling material, but again this takes someone with a great deal of experience and expertise.
It has been said many times that the eyes are the key to the soul, but they are also key to beauty.

Shingles (medically,
for our skin. The air in the house is dry from the heat and the humidity is even lower outside. Remember dry skin is caused by lack of water and therefore water leaves the surface of the skin and the skin gets very dry, cracked and itchy—so called winter itch.
Rarely does it metastasize—go to distant parts of the body, but it is also known as a rodent ulcer, because it eats the skin away in the area. This can be especially troublesome near the eye or in a crease in the face, e.g. near the nose. Usually treatment is curative and if caught early will usually not leave a bad scar. If not caught early, it may require what is known as Moh’s surgery which can be very destructive and require reconstruction. It is so easy to prevent by using a sunscreen with SPF 15-30 on a daily basis.
There are many types of cosmetic procedures that are available this day and time. Some of them are invasive, i.e. they involve opening of the skin in some fashion be it surgery or liposuction or deep laser and there are those that are not particularly invasive, such as
One simple example of this is the use of soap on the face rather than a cleanser (soaps by definition are alkaline) and drying out the skin. Chemicals that change the pH can be either alkaline or acid. Alkaline (like lye) can increase the pH significantly and cannot be controlled. Therefore, the procedures are performed using acid rather than alkaline materials.
. Basically, regardless of cause there are 2 types of acne scars. Distensible scars are those that if you pull on the skin on either side, they smooth out. Ice-pick scars are not distensible and do not move. The edges of these are very hard.
Although there are many types of acne, the one we will consider is the most prevalent in the world and that is acne vulgaris. It occurs in approximately 90% teenagers, both male and female and is the most common cause of scars in the world. Most patients are either self-treated and the problem remits spontaneously or see the family physician or pediatrician. Only a small amount actually end up seeing dermatologists.
